All those denoted by an asterisk, *, had their names scored through, but there was no note in the original documents to indicate why. It certainly was not for non-attendance as from my personal knowledge most of the boys concerned finished up at Hawkley on the first day of September. Also it did not line up with the split of the school into Hawkley and Rowland’s Castle contingents.

On a separate sheet of paper, headed V10, and containing names and addresses of boys, there is a column marked "Other Children", but the symbols there under are difficult to translate. For example, Cantello, Frank of 16 Liston Road, SW4, has by him in that column "(c) one boy aged 12 .01". However, in the list for Party 5, he and his brother Sidney are recorded. There is a total of 7 Masters accompanying 96 boys and younger siblings, together with 4 masters’ wives.

On the same sheet as Party five is fine pen and pencil scribble of what I can deduce as the initial billet allocations made at the time at Hawkley. Where I can decipher them, I have listed the billets in the next section .
